Air Source Heat Pumps

What Is An Air Source Heat Pump?

An air source heat pump is a low-carbon heating system that works differently to a boiler. Rather than burning a fuel like gas or oil, it uses electricity to transfer heat from one place to another.

In this case, from the outside air to your home to provide heating and hot water.

It can do this even when the air is well below freezing. Heat pumps are typically air-to-water systems, which heat water that is then circulated around the home via radiators or an underfloor heating system. They can also be used to heat water in a hot water cylinder - and it is generally more cost-effective to run than a boiler.

The Benefits Of Heating Your Home With An Air Source Heat Pump

Heat pumps are most effective in homes that warm up quickly and keep the heat in. That means they require little energy to maintain a temperature once it has been reached.

Therefore, it’s important that your home is also adequately insulated where possible. Heat pumps produce heat at a lower temperature than a normal central heating system and so need to be controlled differently - you may need larger radiators installed.
